What's On - Virtual Edition

We want to hear from you if you are running an online dance class, meditation, yoga, wellness Zoom meeting, get in touch. Send an email to Lauren at marketing@dance.net.au

Ausdance National has launched a new virtual platform, 'From the Vault - a retrospective of Australian dance'. It features two decades of the choreographic work of independent artists, small and large companies, youth dance companies, and the culturally diverse work of First Nations artists. It demonstrates the richness of Australian dance, much of which is now being lost through severely diminished funding over this period and is a reminder to governments of the danger of losing the best of Australia's dance without further investment.

We begin with some of those who have been awarded an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance since 2003. In the coming weeks, we'll also profile choreographers from other dance sectors, including First Nations dance, youth dance practice, small companies & projects, dance & disability, and community dance. We will also include some of the Australian pieces commissioned by the larger companies in recent years.

We will add new videos each week starting on 4 May, so watch this space each Monday!

Ausdance NSW member Jamie Winbank has started an initiative to keep our bodies moving and to prompt our creative juices, here’s a little online dance film/project/thing, called the socialdis_DANCE project. The Social disDANCE Project was created to connect the dance community through movement and creativity.

If you’d like to be involved, every Monday you’ll be sent out a prompt (it might be an idea, concept, theme, quote to prompt choreographic inspiration) and a song. Then all you have to do is create 4x8 of a physical response, dance or choreography to that prompt and music, film it and send it back and it will be edited to create a weekly dance film.

There will be weekly classes: evening classes Monday (Jazz Technique), Tuesday (Contemporary Technique, Wednesday (Jazz/Theatre Jazz Combo) and Thursday (Stretch/yoga) night and Saturday (Dance conditioning/fitness) mornings.

Don’t forget to follow @socialdis_dance on Instagram and Facebook, and share the social disDANCE magic we create together. Get in touch with Jamie about classes and video project here>>>

AILEY EXTENSION - The official dance studio of Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation. All levels of dancers welcome!

Ailey Extension was created to continue Alvin Ailey's legacy that dance comes from the people and should be given back to the people.

While these are difficult times for the dance community which relies on people gathering in spaces to share movement and create together, it feels important more now than ever to make dance accessible to everyone.

They are inspired by the unity of dancers across the globe sharing at-home classes and dance videos online. To continue their mission, they are sharing all Extension instructors' and guest instructors' online class resources to keep our community dancing!! Amazing.
