GLANCE AT DANCE

We held our industry and members networking event Glance@Dance on Thursday 21 November. In 2019, the NSW dance sector faced considerable challenges and the event was an opportunity for this community to gather, meet one other – artists, educators, and administrators – learn about others’ work, listen to a range of diverse voices, workshop and exchange ideas, stories, experiences, pearls of wisdom and ways forward. This year’s Glance@ Dance represented the culmination of a series
of consultations that Ausdance NSW had been conducting as 2019 drew to a close.
Departing from discussion points at consultations with NSW independent dance organisations and the NSW Tertiary Dance Network, independent artist Annalouise Paul hosted a panel featuring an assortment of practitioners, academics and cultural workers including Dean Walsh, Claire Hicks, Vicki Van Hout, Skip Willcox, and Nalina Wait. The panel discussion covered key topics affecting the NSW dance sector; What are some of the most urgent issues we face collectively in the Dance sector right now? What are the opportunities for dance artists in metropolitan, western Sydney and regional NSW? Diversity and mental health of the dance sector? And what is the future vision for the NSW dance sector moving towards a sustainable future?
The event was attended by over 50 Ausdance NSW members, including representatives from Australia Council, independent dance companies, dance artists, choreographers and dance education.
A special thank you to our event partner Dance Cinema for showcasing 3 dance films from NSW artists; Reminiscene by Lucy Doherty, Abisso by Sarah Pini and One The Edge by Sue Healey. We would like to thank our all attendees and all guest speakers. Thanks to our event sponsors; Bloch, Shen Yun, Pozible and Australian Scholarly Publishing.
