Future Makers and Movers (FMM) is a professional development series for dance teachers in schools and studios. FMM’s first event is a one-day event in Sydney on 1 December at Sydney Dance Company studios. It is designed as an opportunity for teachers to stay current and connected to top Australian dance makers and educators in the sector. FMM aims to empower the teacher and student to create innovative tools beyond genre and age lines, and advocate for dance in their schools, studios and communities.
This first event brings industry juggernaut, Vicki Van Hout, providing her tips of the trade in dance education. This Bangarra Dance Theatre alum and prestigious internationally renowned choreographer will delve into how to get students performing, composing and observing choreography from a new light. Known for her vibrant energy and signature choreography, Vicki will her share strategies to work with young dancers in the ever-changing dance sector. FMM this December will conclude with a symposium where teachers will voice how they want to shape the future of dance education and discuss in a judgement free environment. Join Ausdance NSW champion for dance education and shape the future for sector.
This professional development brings together a holistic approach to working in dance education. FMM will provide tools such as: choreographic tasks from working industry choreographers, cueing anatomical alignment and supporting mental health for young dancers. Dance teachers are more than just teaching movement; FMM is for the educator guiding the next generation to a healthy dance practice both on and off the dance floor.
